Start Your Day in Gamla Stan (Old Town)

The morning is the perfect time to stroll through Gamla Stan, as there are fewer people and the small, narrow streets are less crowded. It’s the ideal opportunity to get a sense of how people lived here in the past. Take your time to stop and admire the colorful details in the buildings around you. You’ll find plenty of cafés, restaurants, and souvenir shops to explore. A must-see is the Market Square (Stortorget), where you’ll find the iconic colorful buildings featured on every blog post and postcard about Stockholm. Here, you can enjoy breakfast at one of the cozy cafés, browse the charming art shops, or even visit the Nobel Prize Museum, located right in the heart of Gamla Stan. Finish your visit to Gamla Stan infront of the Royal Palace. From here you enter a guided boat tour with Sightseeing Ride on an open electric boat!

Kungsträdgården - Enjoy Lunch and Events

Kungsträdgården is a charming park located in the heart of the city. Every week, a variety of events are hosted here, so there’s a good chance you’ll find something interesting happening when you arrive. Surrounding the park, you’ll find plenty of restaurants and cafés, along with street vendors selling hot dogs and snacks. If you’re ready for lunch or just want to take a short break, this is the perfect spot. Alternatively, you can continue walking toward Östermalm, where you’ll also find a wide range of excellent dining options.

Ă–stermalm - Discover Stockholm's Most Expensive Neighborhood

Östermalm is approximately a 15-minute walk from Gamla Stan, and the walk is definitely worth it. You may need more than 15 minutes if you enjoy capturing photos of impressive buildings, such as the Royal Palace, the Opera House, or the National Museum. Head towards Östermalm Saluhall, an iconic building offering various food options. Even if you don’t plan to eat there, a visit is worthwhile! Along the way, you’ll pass some of Östermalm’s beautiful architecture. From the Saluhall, continue walking to Djurgårdsbron, the bridge in front of the Nordic Museum on Djurgården Island. Take initiative and explore the streets that catch your eye in Östermalm. Each street is lined with buildings featuring fascinating details on their facades.

DjurgĂĄrden Island - Visit the Museums

Enter Royal Djurgården Island via Djurgårdsbron, the bridge in front of the Nordic Museum. Be sure to visit one or two of the famous museums here—each offering something unique. The Vasa Museum features one of the world’s oldest and best-preserved shipwrecks and provides insight into life in the 1600s. Skansen is an outdoor museum where you can explore traditional Scandinavian buildings and learn about the region’s culture and traditions. The Nordic Museum delves into Sweden’s cultural history, from the early modern period in the 1500s to contemporary times. For those seeking a adrenaline kick, Gröna Lund is Stockholm’s amusement park. Its roller coasters offer a thrilling view of the city from above. Next to these museums is the Djurgården Park, a vast green space where you’ll find quiet spots to relax.
